F-Secure security researchers warn Symbian S60 users of newly discovered mobile malware identified as “Merogo SMS”. The Merogo SMS is aimed at the Symbian S60 3rd edition mobiles and it spread via SMS. So if you are using a Symbian S60 third edition mobile then you need to take some necessary steps (given bellow) to prevent it.
Mergo SMS effects Symbian S60 3rd edition mobile and spread by sending text messages to other mobiles. Generally the SMS contains a variable message along with a link, if followed the link it will prompt you to install an application which is the so called Merogo SMS warm.
Mergo SMS, after effecting your mobile, it starts sending text messages to premium numbers and other mobiles, in this way it will increase your mobile budget.
How To Prevent Virus: -
Here I would like to speak not only about the Merogo SMS but also about the mobile worms too.
1. Any virus or worm is an application which is to be installed on the mobile to effect the mobile. So the simple way to protect your mobile from the viruses is to have some knowledge about the application supplier, if you can trust the supplier then you can install the application provided by him without any second thought. Don’t install untrusted applications on your mobile.
2. Now a days most of the PC antivirus are capable of detecting mobile viruses too so scan the applications before installing them on your mobile.
3. Have an antivirus on your mobile and frequently update its virus definition database.
How To Prevent “Merogo SMS”: -
Solution comes from the problem.
The above statement works perfectly in this case, as I said observe the process of how the virus is effecting,” spreads by SMS with a link, followed prompted to install an application”, so be aware of the links in text SMS and don’t install any application in this scenario.
Simple observation also keeps you away from it. We generally install application on our mobile for specific purpose but in this Merogo SMS we are installing an application without any intention or any purpose.
